How I Connect With My Body

Your body is your home. You’re stuck with it until you die. Feeling at home in your body and connecting with it is super important for your journey with self. Whether it’s body neutrality, body love and self love, connecting with your physical body is such a wholesome experience that will take you through this journey of body love. Heck, physical touch is one of the love languages you can practice for yourself. Physical touch in this case does not mean just massages, spa treatment etc. although that can be the case.

Physical touch as a love language can look like having a nutritious meal, taking a walk, taking a nice, long shower or bath, doing your skin care, wearing something comfortable or sexy even, resting when you need to, appealing to the senses, etc. In today’s blog post I want to share my favorite ways to connect with my physical body.

Adorn Your Body

My absolute favorite way to connect with my body is to adorn it with pretty things and pretty scents. This looks like wearing cute clothes, putting on jewellery & getting piercings, wearing my favorite perfume (my current fave is My Way). I actually have the prettiest belly chain and I can’t wait to put it on.

Appealing To The Senses

I like to think of the body senses as the passages to the body. For the sense of smell I like to light a candle or put on a wallflower for my room. To appeal to touch, I enjoy cold showers, skin, hair and body care. For taste, I like to buy or make myself something yummy to eat (I’m currently craving dumplings). To appeal to sight I like to see nature and look at art, and finally, to appeal to my sense of hearing I love to listen to music.

Move Your Body

When it comes to body movement, I try to mix it up just so it doesn’t get boring. I like to have solo dance parties, practice yoga, take walks, skip, practice sexy dances that only my mirror will ever see, work out, stretch etc. After any sort of body movement I tend to feel so happy in my body and feel refreshed & rejuvenated. Of course I’ll take a shower after I’m sweaty but the feeling lasts all day.

Listen To Your Needs

Your body will always tell you what it needs. Whether it’s rest, food, warmth, a work out, sex, a strectch, whatever it is, it will tell you. And the more you listen to it the more you connect with it and feel yummy in your body.

Wear Something Comfortable

Sweats, pjs, deras and the rest of that WhatsApp group are such top tier clothes especially for a Sunday afternoon. Wearing something comfortable is so freeing. Everything can sit where it wants to, and there’s nothing too tight or uncomfortable restricting your relaxation. It’s almost like getting a hug from your clothes.

I find that the more I make it a practice to connect with and love on my body the more I love and appreciate her and what she has and continues to do for me. The fuller my experiences become and the safer I feel in my body. The more I connect with her the better I treat her because I care more for her and I stand up for her more. This can look like saying what I need from a given situation, eating better, being more intentional with my skin care, allowing myself to rest etc. and I love it here! I hope this sheds some light on some of the ways you can practice connection with your body. If you have any favorites that I haven’t mentioned, please share them in the comments 🥰
